Cairo Sim 8 Recap - 2059.04

Post by PixelHero » Mon May 27, 2024 11:33 pm

The Cairo Pharaohs were able to maintain their 7 game lead in the division going 3 and 3 over the last week of GBC action. Cairo dropped the first series to Buenos Aires losing two of the three games in the series. Unlike the nominal Pharaohs game, all games were high scoring affairs in this series. Cairo fared better in the second series of the week, taking on Sao Paulo and winning two of three. This weeks action sees Cairo's record improving to 32 and 19 which is good for first place in the division. Offensively, the team was led by So Huynh, Wan-ling Koo and Shane Smith. The aforementioned three combined for 25 hits 5 HRs and 16 RBIs in what was a high scoring week for the Cairo offense. Despite the .500 record over the course of the week, Cairo players noted they were pleased with the offensive production hoping to maintain an ability to score runs at that rate going forward. Cairo's 5.6 runs per game average over the last 7 games is a large improvement relative to the teams season average. Looking ahead to the next week, Cairo has a home series against Moscow, followed by a trip to London to play the Monarchs and finally will close the next week against the first place Jerusalem Hammers.

Cairo 7 - Buenos Aires 0 - Cairo dominated this game from start to finish getting an impressive complete game shutout from Afzul Chishti. Christi didn't walk a batter and allowed only 2 hits. Despite only striking out 3 batters, Chishti effectively limited hard contact allowing Cairo fielders to convert 24 outs, many of which were weakly hit routine plays. Offensively Blair 'Breezy' Peyton was a force going 5 for 6 with 4 singles and a double. Peyton continues to be an effective GBC hitter in 2059 with a .337 average, leading the Pharaohs in hits on the season.

Buenos Aires 8 - Cairo 4 - Bani Marita started for Cairo and struggled, surrendering 6 runs on 8 hits across just 4+ innings. The Brisas scored 4 in the second and another 2 in the 5th chasing Marita from the game. The deficit proved too large for the Cairo bats, which were led by catcher So Huynh. Huynh was 4 for 4 with two home runs and a double. Wan-ling Koo chipped in the other 2 RBIs completing the Cairo offensive production for the day. After two games, the Pharaohs have split the series and will look to pick up the third game and take the series from Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires 9 - Cairo 6 - The Brisas had a hot start, scoring 4 runs in the first inning and never looked back. In the rubber game, Buenos Aires never trailed with Cairo starter Francisco Molina struggling over 4.2 innings. After allowing 5 runs, he was relieved by Brian Ioneki who alsso struggled allowing 4 runs on 4 hits in just an inning of work. Offensively, Cairo was able to score 6 runs on eight hits and were led by Kamal bin Isa who had 3 hits and came around to score 3 times as well. Despite the more then usual offense from Cairo, it was not enough to overcome the 9 runs surrendered and the Pharaohs dropped the series.

Sao Paulo 8 - Cairo 4 - This game was a back and forth affair, with all run scoring innings for both teams consisting of exactly 2 runs. Cairo jumped out to an early lead in the first, but the Pilots stormed back in the second and would never trail again. Both teams had 9 hits and defensively it was a sloppy game with the two teams combining to make 4 errors. Pilots first basemen Katsunan 'Rev' Hashimoto contributed the game winning double in the fifth.

Cairo 6 - Sao Paulo 0 - After a disappointing game 1 Cairo stormed back in game 2 of the series, scoring 6 runs on 12 hits. Shane Smith led the charge offensively going 3 for 5 with 2 doubles which drove in 2. Ragnvard Lamm had a great outing throwing 6 scoreless innings and improving his record on the season to 6 and 0. The Cairo bullpen was able to shut the door and complete the shutout allowing no hits and no runs over 3 innings of work. The dominant win sets up an opportunity to win the series tomorrow for the Pharaohs.

Cairo 7 - San Paulo 6 - Wan-ling Koo had a big day at Pyramid Park crushing 2 home runs and driving in 4. So Huynh contributed a game winning run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth propelling the Pharaohs to victory over the Pilots. The usually solid Gary Powers had a rough outing allowing 3 runs and blowing the save opportunity in the eighth inning. Nonetheless, Cairo was able to rise to the occasion in a total team effort and close out the series against the Pilots with a win.
