Cairo Sim 7 Recap - 2059.03

The Cairo Pharaohs were able to put together a very strong week of baseball with a record of 5-2 across 7 games. The lone two losses were to Tokyo, resulting in a series loss to the Pearls. However, the Pharaohs answered with a sweep of arch-rival Sydney improving their record on the season to 29-16. The three victories over Sydney proved large in regards to the AGSAMOC division standings as Cairo was able to increase the division lead to 7 games, thanks to the strong week of baseball. Blair Peyton and Boulus bin Altair led the offense combining for 15 hits, 3 home runs, and 9 RBIs over the last 7 games. The week ahead will see Cairo traveling to Buenos Aires for a 3 game set against the second place Buenos Aires Brisas followed by a return home to for a series against the Sao Paulo Pilots.

Cairo 8 - Athens 4 - Going into the 8th inning the Fighting Centaurs were holding a 4 to 3 lead, but a big inning from the Pharaohs saw 5 runs cross the plate and ultimately propelled the team to victory. The big inning saw Cairo stringing together 5 hits, all of which were singles. Lucas Black was able to close out the game, working the final 2.2 innings lowering his ERA to 1.04 on the season.

Cairo 4 - Toyko 2 - Ragnvard Lamm had a very strong outing, going 8 innings allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits and no walks. While only striking out 5, Lamm leaned on the strong Cairo defense which has proven to be a successful formula over the course of the season. Two runs in the eighth, and one more in the ninth was enough to complete the come from behind victory with a home run coming from Blair Peyton which capped of his 2 for 4 night. Gary Powers was able to close out the game picking up his 14th save of the year.

Toyko 5 - Cairo 2 - Tokyo received a dynamic performance from Adel bin Husam al Din who led the Tokyo offense going 3 for 3 with a home run. Taylor Barfoot also chimed in with a three run home run of his own. Offensively, Cairo was never able to get it going scoring just two runs on 7 hits. With a disappointing offensive display Cairo lost the opportunity for the sweep over the Pearls and will look to take the rubber game to win the series.

Toyko 4 - Cairo 2 - It was more of the same for Cairo as they again only could muster up 2 runs on 7 hits. Despite striking first in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead, Tokyo was able to answer back in the bottom of the frame evening things up and then taking the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth. Sugimoto Yoshikawa connected on a two run homer for his first of the season. Blair Peyton attempted to get the rally going in the top of the ninth contributing a single, but the Pharoahs offense was not able to do any more damage, thus dropping the series 2 games to 1 to the Tokyo Pearls.

Cairo 7 - Sydney 0 - Cairo starter Francisco Molina worked an extremely efficient 7 innings throwing just 92 pitches, surrendering just 1 run allowing only 2 hits and walking 1. Molina picked up his 4th win of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.70 on the year. Offensively, the Pharaohs chipped in 12 hits and 5 walks which was more then enough on a day when the Sharks could not score any runs. Most of the damage came of Sharks reliever Álex León who surrendered 6 runs and did not record an out in the eighth as he allowed 2 walks and 4 hits while not recording an out. Blair Peyton led the charge with a bases clearing triple and then later came around to score putting the game out of reach for the Sharks.

Cairo 6 - Sydney 4 - A strong seventh inning in which Cairo scored 4 runs propelled the Pharaohs to victory. Just like game 1, the Pharaohs were able to crush Álex León, this time touching him up for 3 runs on 3 hits. Through the first 2 games of this series, Leon has been ineffective out of the Sharks bullpen failing to record a single out. Sydney attempted to rally in the eighth and pulled within 2, but were unable to cut the deficient further with Gary Powers locking down his 15th save of the year. With this victory Cairo guarantees the series win against Sydney and looks to go for the sweep in the final game of the series.

Cairo 3 - Sydney 2 - Ragnvard Lamm efficently cut through the Sharks lineup, needing just 86 pitches to record 24 outs allowing just 5 hits and 2 runs. While only striking out 3, Lamm was able to limit hard contact and the Cairo defense did not let him down. Gary Powers came on and worked a clean 9th picking up his 16th save and completing a well pitched game for the Pharaohs. Cairo chipped in 10 hits offensively, including a clutch two out game winning single in the seventh by Enrique Rodríguez. With this victory Cairo swept rivals Sydney and improved there lead over the Sharks to 7 in the standings.
