The last week felt like an important one for the Pharaohs. Six of the 7 games they played were against two of the three teams most closely competing with Cairo for the second playoff spot. A bad week would have meant a close race and a lot of stressed out fans. A good week would mean a little breathing room and a little more margin for error.
It was a good week. After losing the series finale to Tokyo, the Pharaohs won 2 of 3 against Jerusalem and 3 in a row to start a 4 game series against São Paulo. Cairo is now 2.5 games behind Athens for the GBC lead, but they are 4.5 ahead of 3rd place London, 7 ahead of Sao Paulo, and 8.5 ahead of Jerusalem. The fans in Cairo are starting to let themselves get a little excited. There is still a lot of season left but the Pharaohs are giving the city reason to hope.
EwungaGoiba Ghera has continued to reward the coaching staff for the extra opportunity they gave him. Ghera earned two wins this week, with a 2.51 ERA across 14.1 innings.
