Not only did the Pharaohs lose 3 out the 6 games they played this week, but they also lost two players to extended injuries. The Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers completed a three game sweep over Cairo on Wednesday with an 11-1 blowout win. After an off-day, the Pharaohs started a series against the Tokyo Pearls. Excellent pitching and timely hitting helped Cairo earn a sweep in the series with scores of 1-0, 6-3, and 3-2. The São Paulo Pilots then cam to town and won the first two games of the next series in a 4-2 game and a 12-0 shellacking.

Utility infielder Jose Montano left the game on 5/21 and will miss at least the next 4-5 weeks due to knee tendinitis. Montano has played 38 games this season, split between all 4 infield positions. He has provided solid defense and 10 extra base hits and 10 RBI in those games. He will be replaced on the roster by infielder Roberto Beltran who last played in the GBC with Tokyo in 2053.
Starting pitcher Guruvayar Vashisth, who has been the team’s best starter this season at 4-1 2.45, left the game on 5/23 and will be out for at least 7 weeks with shoulder inflammation. Vashisth will be replaced by EwungaGoiba Ghera in the rotation for the time being. Ghera has been solid during his time with Pretoria this year, with a 6-3 record and a 3.77 ERA in 10 starts. He struggled in relief at the GBC level with Sou Paulo from 2051-2053.

General Manager Nathan Garrison stated that Ghera would get the first change to replace Vashisth but that the team would not hesitate to look at other options in the near future if necessary.
