Cairo Weekly In-Season Report 6 (2055.9)

Post by Krathan » Sun Jun 18, 2023 12:49 am

The week started off rough for the Pharaohs, as Andresa Pires returned from the injured list to start against São Paulo. After escaping trouble in the 1st, Pires delivered a quiet second. Miguel Hernández crushed his 4th goal HR of the season to give Cairo a 1-0 lead in the 3rd. I’m the bottom of that inning, Pires fell apart, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and a walk before being pulled with 2 out. The Pilots went on to win 8-1 and pull into a tie for the lead in the GBC.

Cairo then came home to face Athens. The series started well as Nacho Mendez hit 3 singles and drove in 2 runs while Guruvayur Vashisth picked up his 4th win of the campaign with 6.2 scoreless innings.
The Fighting Centaurs won the next game by a score of 5-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Uthman Amir. Nacho Mendez and Santiago Duran were both injured in the game. Fortunately, neither injury was serious enough to keep them out long term.
Cairo and Athens combined for 23 runs on 28 hits and 10 walks in the series finale. The teams went back and forth throughout the game with Athena holding on for a 12-11 victory.
Cairo got a much needed day off after the series against Athens, having lost 4 of the last 5 games. They came out energized after the travel day. Ramiro Hernandez hit 2 HR to power Cairo past Sydney 8-3 in the series opener and George Collins hit 2 HR in the next game as Cairo beat Sydney 11-6. With those wins, the Pharaohs widened their lead in the GBC to 2 games.
