Assessing the Brisas Roster - Part One

So, I think that I am starting to find my feet now within the GBC and BBA. The trade deadline has just passed (once the replacement file goes up) and despite discussing a few players the price didn't feel right so we have actually done very little. To be honest though this is probably in keeping with my own philosophy with these things. Wait, develop players and see. Is this the right approach? Who the hell knows?

I wanted to put some thoughts down on my position groupings as we come towards the end of the GBC season although we are still very much in a dogfight to reach the postseason with some shaky recent performances. I'm a visual person so I often find excercises like this to be helpful for me in terms of organising my own thoughts and in giving some insight into the way that I want to do things.

Let's start with the outfield, and by extension DH role within my favoured lineup. Let's start with the DH spot.


Leonard Jackson is currently my DH as I moved him away from LF recently. As you can see he provides some value in terms of his performances as a hitter. He is in the 94th percentile for RBI's and the 96th percentile for HR's bit his average (53rd percentile) is hampered significantly by his SO% being in the 7th percentile - ouch. 1.2 WAR (69th percentile) is acceptable but not by much.

This has always been one of my issues with OOTP. I struggle to find the balance between power and overall performance but we very much need to add more power to our hitting profile as a whole.

Next, the man that has replaced Jackson at LF.


Still early days for Mr Robertsen at LF in the GBC but his performances at AAA suggested that he was ready to make the step up and my models for hitters tell me that he should be very strong once fully developed. There is some power in his profile with 11 HR's in 227 AB's and his BB% so far being in the 92nd percentile is very promising. It is still, however, very early to be suggesting that he is a player that could make the leap next year.

He could though, right?

Next up let's look at our starting RF.


Jesus Leon is an extremely solid GBC outfielder judging by his performance. Is he a difference maker in the post season though? Probably not quite. I do like his ability to get on base and obviously he is generating offence given that he is in the 83rd percentile with a 123 wRC+ but I still feel like he needs a bit more in his bat overall to push him from above average to good. This is part of the reason that RF was one of the positions that I was interested in upgrading when I was evaluating trades prior to the deadline.

Lastly let's look at our starting CF.


Probably one of my favourite players that we have at the moment. Amin Abdul-Halim brings offensive power and defensive stabiity to the outfield. His WAR of 4.4 (98th percentile) is solid driven by his defensive profile and his 92nd percentile output for RBI's and his 89th percentile output for HR's. Yes, he does strike out too much (30th percentile for SO%) but this can be forgiven in terms of his output.

So, I am left with mixed feelings. I need a DH who can hit and Leonard Jackson is serviceable in that role. Erik Robertsen I think will make the leap to become really good. Amin Abdul-Hamin is, of course, very good so I come back to Jesus Leon at RF. He is capable but I feel like I could have better in that role. Maybe I should have paid the price and pulled the trigger for one of the trades at that position? We will see.
