Light wind - 2060.2 - The class of '54 are out(standing/fielders)

The GBC is known for three things: old BBA veterans, stealing Quinn Greene's and Blair Peyton's careers away from the BBA and fun young talent. Today, we will talk about 3 guys no one was too high on creating an exceptional outfield trio set to play for a long time yet. Oh, and they were all drafted in 2054 and are all now 22...

In left field is perhaps the most highly touted of the three, Erik Robertsen was drafted in the first round with the idea of being an average left fielder with elite power, an elite eye and above-average contact skills. In his minor league career, he always struggled to live up to this hype. He ultimately appeared to have below-average contact skills, which hurt him during his first year in AAA last year where he only hit .208. Even with his eye and power, he limped to an 84 OPS+. Williamson had faith in him though, letting 5.2 WAR star Matt Garrison walk, simply to give him an everyday shot at the GBC level. It's safe to say he has delivered, .265/.335/.576 for an OPS+ of 146 is more than Williamson hoped for. So far he has been facing righty pitchers only but has now earned the right to do the same damage to lefties, despite an expected drop in power. Regression is expected, but it is hoped that he remains a comfortably above-average hitter who hits bombs.

In right field was the second-round pick that year, Davey McDonald has also been exceptional, better arguably. A fairly inconspicuous player in many ways because apart from an underwhelming eye, he's above average at everything. He hits for average, has sneaky power (that is no longer sneaky) and plays above-average defense. All of a sudden you look down and he's hitting .291/.323/.620 and is on track for 7.2 WAR. He was never ranked above 18th in any prospect rankings, hard work pays off people. His path wasn't as simple, Williamson did everything he could (and is still doing) to bring back Isacco Aglietti. A guy who was above average offensively and played good defence, he was a solid 2 WAR player year in and out. By losing him though, they may have found a better version of him. Even if Agletti is resigned, it's safe to say he won't be taking time away from McDonald.

It's not all about these ridiculous OPSs though, centre field is a position where quality defense is hard to find in the GBC, let alone combining that with an acceptable bat. The Brisas found just that though in the 4th round with Amin Abdul-Halim. Those fans among you will know this is his second full year in the GBC, despite his offensive struggles last year, his exceptional defence allowed him to be a good player in a playoff side at just 21 years old. This year though, his bat is above average, 106 OPS+ to be exact, and all of a sudden he is predicted 4.7 WAR due to his exceptional centre field defense. Blair Peyton, eat your heart out.

The future of the outfield is in safe hands then, with 23 year old Thomas Hohenwart and two potential big additions under 30 to add. Watch out for these meddling kids!
