As the second wave of free agents were signed today UMEBA teams were aided by a mysterious glitch at the BBA headquarters that prevented any Brewster free agent offers from being processed. It's hard to say who, if any, of the free agents signed to UEMBA teams were even offered BBA contracts or not or if the glitch will repeat itself.
One of the free agents signed by a UMEBA team was SP Adam Simons who signed a two year, $3.2 million deal with the expansion Libyan Generals to be the ace of their rotation. Like many UEMBA players Simons has performed well at the AAA level of the BBA but he just has not found success at the big league level. At just 26 years old he was young enough and showed enough for the Generals to take a chance on him.
Other players of note that joined the Generals this week were infielder Felix Membiela and OF Henry Rectenberg although the duo was claimed off waivers from Kuwait City. The pair each played significant time for the Alfahr in 1942 and, barring any major free agent signings later in the offseason, both are expected to start for the Generals.
Generals GM Herb DeSpain was happy with the transactions saying, "We got better today. Both on the mound and at the plate."
