The Libyan Generals are no longer just a thought or an Idea, they are a thing now. With the hiring of GM Herb DeSpain the organization is beginning to form. Each expansion team was assigned 24 former BBA players but it's up to the teams to finish filling the other 125 +/- spots in the minors. "It's all about your perspective," DeSpain said from his new office. "You have over 100 minor league spots to fill so you have to look at three to four hundred players for that. You also have to evaluate the players the league assigned to you and you have to decide if you want to look for something better in free agency."
Most of the players assigned by the league did not have successful careers in the BBA but could possibly compete in the UMEBA. 1B Arnold Leach is one of the players DeSpain is hoping will lead this team. Leach has not played since 1940 and while he never found much success in the BBA he thrived at the AAA and AA levels. 26 year old SP Issam Serres is the best pitcher currently on the roster but DeSpain hopes to change that soon with his work in free agency. "We have some offers out there but if no one signs then we will go with what we have," said Generals' pitching coach Sayyan Mahdi. "We signed over 60 players the first day so I know he's looking," said manager Shakir Jat. "I just hope we are looking for quality and not just quantity!"
