Well the team rolled off 3 straight wins versus Madison before the dumps set in again. The club lost out on the sweep by losing the finale against the Wolves before dropping 3 more in a row after that to the defending champs in Nashville. The only thing that kept the sim from being worse was the effort of Damek Korbel.
Portland was riding a 4-game losing streak into the finale against the Bluebirds. The game was scoreless through 6 as Camacho and Lololo were locked in a duel. That was until Korbel got the Lumberjacks on the board with a run-scoring single in the 7th inning. The Portland pen didn't hold the lead long as Luis Equivel allowed a run in the bottom half to knot the game at 1-1. The score remained knotted at 1 and headed to extra innings.
The Lumberjacks, wanting to get out of Nashville as quickly as possible and head to Omaha, didn't waste much time. Alvin Conley led the inning off with a single that brought Korbel back to the dish. Korbel was 2-3 with an RBI heading into the at-bat. He worked the count even at 2 balls and 2 strikes before getting a pitch from Quirke Roddis he could handle. Korbel sent the ball to deep left centerfield and over the wall for a 2-run homerun. The homerun was our Kate's Kookies Moment of the Sim!
Nashville did send the tying run to the plate in the bottom half after a 2-out double by Roger Kidd. But Lewis Norman induced a groundball to short off bin Nawaf that ended the game with Portland the victor by the final score of 3-1.
