In his first game as a professional, Portland Lumberjacks' uber-prospect Mynorli Gaajlimitz found the big league game to be a little tougher than high school life. After getting 78 hits in 40 games as a senior at Union Pacific High School, Mynorli failed to get a single hit in his debut for the Antigua Tikis, Portlands Short-A season squad.
"I KNEW IT" typed one angry fan in all-caps on a Portland web blog, "THE GUY IS A BUM! HE'S TOO SLOW. HE CAN'T PLAY THE FIELD! AND HE CAN'T EVEN HIT. WE SHOULD HAVE DRAFTED SOMEONE ELSE! HERE'S TO MORE YEARS OF MISERY!"
Against the All Saints Blue Claws, a New Orleans Crawdads farm system, Gaajlmitz was limited to just 4 plate appearances as the Tikis failed to get any offense going in the season debut. Antigua mustered just 4 hits and failed to score in the contest but most eyes for Antigua were on Mynorli.
In hist first at-bat, Mynorli reached via an error on the 2B. Lost in the 0-2 night by Gaajlimitz was the fact that on this particular AB, the exit velocity of the ball in play registered at over 102 mph. While it wasn't the hardest hit ball of the night in the game, it definitely opened some eyes.
"Holy shit, he smoked that ball" said another fan on the web blog. "He's going to be fun to watch if his outs are hit like that!"
In his 2nd plate appearance, Gaajlimitz worked a full count walk. His 3rd PA resulted in a week groundball to 2B and then he managed to be hit by a pitch in his 4th and final trip to the dish. So for the night, Mynorli's stat line read: 0-2. But he managed a walk and a hit by pitch so his OBP currently reads .500.
"If he reaches base 50 percent of the time" said Portland GM Kate Fiscus who was in attendance, seen once wearing a bikini top and sipping a margarita, "then we think we have a hall of famer on his hands."
A lot of reactions for a guy in his first game.

Guess you'll just have to ship him off to Phoenix. What a failure.

He’s ranked so much higher in the top 100 than most of the other recent top picks.
