Kate sat in the corner of the GM’s box after another Portland win. While high 5s were being thrown around the room after another Portland win, their 4th straight, she just sat there brooding and muttering “Fuck Shoeless. Fuck Vancouver! Fuck Wilson!” Clearly the assistant general manager wasn’t happy over her current situation but nonetheless she was showing her hatred of division rivals while the rest of the room celebrated another win!

Portland pulled off a rather unexpected week this week, taking a 4-1 record against Sacramento and Vancouver and vault the team into 3rd place and just a game out of the division. Had the Lumberjacks managed to pull off a perfect week, the club would be sitting atop the Pacific Standings. But a 14-10 overall record on a week the team took a two-game sweep of the Mad Popes and 2 of 3 vs the Mounties is never a bad thing.

“We heard the comments” Patrick Rosales who was a perfect 5 for 5 on reaching base with 3 walks, a home run, and 5 RBI in the Lumberjacks’ 13-9 win over Vancouver Friday night. “Vancouver’s GM made the subtle remark last week about our record versus them last year. Well this is a new year and making that remark may have sparked the club house a little.”

The offense definitely showed they were fired up by scoring 25 runs in the first two games against Vancouver. But the offense was a carry over from the two-game set against Sacramento when it scored a combined 17 runs in two wins.

“Frankly, I love hearing the club house be a little fired up to play these guys, especially Vancouver” said Wilson after the 13-9 win on Friday. “Our record was not good against that bunch last year and I’m glad we have some guys in the clubhouse who won’t tolerate that shit!”

The 4-1 week guarantees that Portland will finish the first month of the season with a winning record. The club will host San Fernando Monday night to wrap up the month before heading back on the road to Twin Cities next week.
