Clearly the loss in the finale had him soured a little, but Portland GM Chris Wilson couldn't help puff on a cigar as his team left the Outhouse, er uh, the Outpost in Vancouver after his Lumberjacks squad won yet another series against Vancouver.
"Would've been better had we won that last one" said Wilson as the air ballooned with smoke from his stogie, "but I'll take 5 out of 6 to start the season from those guys. And thank god for this cigar, it helps drown out the damn piss smell of this place."
The Lumberjacks took game 1 of the series 2-1 behind yet another fabulous start by John O'Leary. O'Leary allowed just 2 hits and the lone run over 8 innings to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season. John has now gone at least 8 innings in his last 4 starts. "He's emerged as our ace through the first month" commented managers Mons Raider. "I can't say much more about the guy other than he's been fantastic to start the season." Two of O'Leary's 5 wins have come against Vancouver.
Game 2 of the series saw yet another dominating pitching performance as Mauro Esperanda held Vancouver in check, going 7.1 scoreless innings, scattering just 2 hits over that span. "It was good to finally have a good outing" said Esperanda after the 4-0 win. "That's back to back trips I've felt good, but finally got that first win under my belt. Hopefully it's a sign of more good days to come." Mynorli Gaajlimitz was a homerun shy of the cycle in the win while Bartolo McFadden's solo homerun in the 2nd inning was all the runs Portland needed.
The finale doesn't need much mentioning. But it was nice to see Vancouver show some resemblance of a BBA team for once this season.
The series victory was preceded by Portland droppign 2 straight to Bikini before being followed with 2 wins vs Valencia. Portland went 4-3 in the sim.
