Top Hitter

Colm Aker
Wow, I don't think I realized quite how bad our offense was until I sorted the stats by month. We had 8 guys put up negative WAR totals for the month. Needless to say one of them was not Colm Aker. Aker, a guy we shouldn't have signed earlier this year, made up for our mistake with a solid month. In July, he hit .380/.439/.680 with 4 homeruns and 9 RBI. Due to split duties at 1B, he didn't lead the team in either homeruns or RBI but his collective stat line and his solid 0.4 WAR for the month was enough to earn him this month's top hitter honors. On the season, Aker is now batting a respectable .257/.337/.472 with 13 homeruns and 30 runs batted in. Posting a 0.7 overall WAR on the year.
Top Pitcher

Cheslav Evgrafov
For the second straight month, we'll give the honor to Evgrafov. Cheslav made 5 starts in July and posted only a 2-0 record. Over those 5 starts, Evgrafov logged 24.0 innings, allowing 22 hits and 5 walks while striking out 20. He posted a 3.75 ERA for the month. The Lumberjacks have placed Chelsav on the trade block and have surprisingly received little to no interest in the 31 year old hurler. A bad start recently has changed things, but at one point this month he was 4th in the Frick League with a 3.2 WAR. He's dipped back down to a 2.9 overall WAR on the season. He's 9-4 overall with a 3.60 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.
Bum of the Month

Jose Hurtado
Woof! It is never good when your leadoff man bats .148/.225/.185 for a full calendar page. Jose entered July putting up some solid on-base numbers to set the table for our offense. But he fell off the planet in July. Here are his OBP numbers by month: .413; .348; .355; .225. Hell those first 3 months are very solid for a guy we signed off a minor league contract in April. He was so bad in July that he entered the month with a 1.0 WAR. He now has a -0.3 WAR on the season.
