2062.77 Charlotte Prospect Watch-Left Field

Post by Krathan » Sat Apr 19, 2025 9:01 pm

This is the sixth article in my series looking at my the top prospects in my organization. This article will cover my top left fielders.

1 The top player on this list is Tony Villa. Villa was taken in the first round of the 2061 draft and made his BBA debut in August of 2061. Villa spent 66 days on the roster so he still maintains his rookie status. Villa was good in AAA this year but he was better in Charlotte. In 56 BBA games, he slashed .355/.403/.557 with a wRC+ of 161 and 2.6 WAR. Late in the season, and during Charlotte's playoff run, the 19 year old became the team's leadoff man. Villa was drafted as a poor defensive second baseman but has become a good defender in left field. His potential ratings are 7/7/7/5. He still has room to grow into those numbers as he currently rates 6/7/5/5. Villa will be the starting left fielder for the Flyers on opening day in 2063.

2 The second prospect on this list is Daniel Byram. He was taken in the 16th round of the 2060 draft and has potential ratings of 8/9/3/7. He has a long way to go in order to reach that potential but he has seen some positive development this year. His statistical output was also the best of his career in 2062. At 19 years old, he is coming off of a season in which he slashed .245/.317/.425 with a wRC+ of 108 and 0.8 WAR. He hit 20 doubles, 2 triples, and 4 home runs in 66 games.

3 The next prospect on the list is Harry Taylor. He was taken in the 3rd round of the 2059 draft and has been slow to develop. Now 24 years old, Taylor still hasn't reached his potentials of 6/6/6/5. He got a brief opportunity to play in Charlotte in 2061 but struggled in 25 games. Taylor has not regained his form in the minors since that time. He needs to show something soon or risk falling out of favor. He has already fallen quite a ways down the prospect list.

4 The next player on the list is Victor Fernandez. He was taken in the fourth round of the 2061 draft. He is a 21 year old left handed hitting outfielder who is an outstanding defender in left and a solid one in center. With a bump in range he could be a very good center fielder. Fernandez has current and potential ratings of 7/5/3/3. He had a strong year in AA this year, slashing .345/.383/.480 with a wRC+ of 131 and 4.1 WAR. He will get a chance to play at the AAA level to start 2063.

5 The last player on the list is Javier Gurries. He was signed as an IAFA and is in the international complex. The 17 year old has potential ratings of 5/7/6/5 with good defensive skills and good speed. He will be one to watch.

Villa’s production this year as an underdeveloped 19 year old is just wild to me. You can’t miss.
