2062.42 Sim 10 and a trade

The Flyers lost 2 of 3 in Las Vegas against the Frontier leading Hustlers to start the sim. It was only the second time the team lost a series since Walt Whitworth took over as manager. His previous series loss was to Atlantic Division leading Charm City near the end of April. The Flyers then split a 4 game series with the San Antonio Outlaws to end the sim at 3-4 on the week.

Three of the four losses were games where the loss was credited to a relief pitcher. Ron Madden lost 2 games and Jameel Khanum lost one as well. Ignacio Lewis had his worst start of the season in the final game of the sim, allowing 5 runs in just 1.2 innings but the offense gave the team a chance to win before Madden eventually blew the save in an 8-7 loss.

Qing-lai Ou-yang, who has been a productive member of the bullpen since joining the team in 2059 was recently added to the starting rotation. His first start of the year was solid, allowing just 2 runs in 6.1 innings. Since then, he has struggled, allowing 15 earned runs in 16.1 innings. The Flyers have announced a trade that will send Ou-yang back to the bullpen, where he has an ERA of 3.22 in 22.2 innings so far this season.

Charlotte has acquired veteran starting pitcher Brody Picot from the Bikini Krill for a group of players including Juan Vera, Mitku Ndururi, and Dave Travis.

Assistant general manager Ivan Correa spoke about the players involved in the deal.

"Brody is a good, experienced starting pitcher who goes out there every fifth day and gives his team a chance to win. Two thirds of his starts this year have qualified as quality starts. If he can do that for us the rest of the way then I think we'll win a lot of those games.

Vera was good for us last year but there just wasn't room for him on the big league club this season. I appreciate what he's done for us but we needed to move his salary to make this deal work.

Ndururi and Travis are both very young and have some enticing upside. We hate to move players like that out of the organization but it's the only way you can get a guy like Brody.

We feel like our pitching staff is stronger with Ou-yang in the pen and he will now move back into a role he has done very well for us. This also takes some of the pressure off of Felipe Cummings. He can relax and try to work on his development in Richmond without feeling like he has to rush in order to fill a hole at the big league level."
