Game 1 at New Orleans:
This was kind of an ugly game for Charlotte. We're 2nd in the league in stolen bases but had two attempted steals and both runners were caught stealing. And despite being one of the better defensive teams in the JL, we committed an error. Jacquot Natta only allowed 3 runs in his 5 innings but also left 2 men in scoring position with 2 out as a batter.
This was our 2nd loss in the last 3 games and it looked like the great run that had started May might be turning around now that we were in the middle of a long road trip.
Game 2 at New Orleans:
Ignacio Lewis allowed 3 runs in 5 innings and left the game trailing 3-2. The Flyers offense finally came to life in the 6th, scoring 5 runs in the final 4 innings of the game. Lewis got a no decision and remained at 5 wins on the season.
Game 3 at New Orleans:
Antonio Santiago, who replaced John Rasmussen III in the starting rotation after Little Johnny was released, has now won 3 consecutive starts. This was his best so far, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks in 6.1 innings. He has now allowed 7 runs 19 innings over his last 3 outings after allowing 7 runs in 0.2 in his first start.
Dallas Dixon, who is in the top 10 in SB in the JL was caught stealing twice in this game, as he went 0-3 with 2 walks.
Game 4 at Phoenix:
Felipe Cummings struggled again in his last start before being sent back down to AAA for further development. He threw 4.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 2 walks and 7 hits. He allowed a home run, a triple, 3 triples, and 2 singles in the game.
Game 5 at Phoenix:
Buwono Mainaky was outstanding in this game. He allowed 4 hits and 1 run, on a solo homer, in 8 innings, earning his 4th win of the season and lowering his Earaa to 3.06.
Right Fielder Jose Vargas, who had 3 OF assists last season got his 5th of the year in this game.
Game 6 at Phoenix:
Jacquot Natta finally won his second game of the season, bringing his record to 2-5 on the year. This was the first time he pitched into the 7th inning, as he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, and 1 walk, striking out 5.
Game 7 at Phoenix:
Ignacio Lewis once again allowed 3 runs in 5 innings while the offense scored late to win the game, meaning that Lewis is still 5-2 on the year. Mainaky has now overtaken Lewis for the team lead in ERA.
Josh Dougherty picked up his 13th save in 13 opportunities in this game.
General:
Josh Dougherty has lumped a bit ratings wise but has been pitching extremely well. He is now 1-0 with 13 saves and 1 run allowed in 17.1 innings since his meltdown on opening day.
Bandit Natta was awful for most of April, going 0-3 with an ERA of 6.08 through 5 starts April 2-April 24. He has been much better since that time. In the 5 games from April 29-May 20, Natta is 2-3 with an ERA of 4.33 and a FIP of 3.24.
After starting the year 4-8 on the road, my team has won 10 of 13 road games in May.
