New Charlotte manager Walt Whitworth was welcomed into the visitor's clubhouse in Atlantic City by a group of his former players when he entered for the first time on Monday morning.
Jacquot Natta, Ben Graybill, and Reynaldo Fernandez eagerly welcomed him to his new job and introduced him to the other players on the team.
The trio all played for Whitworth in the organization's rookie league affiliate, the Elkins Buzzards.
As they introduced the new manager to the rest of the team, Natta, Graybill, and Fernandez let their teammates know that they were excited about Whitworth's promotion.
"He's a great guy to play for." said Natta.
"He knows how to get the best out of the guys on the team." added Fernandez.
"He really helped me figure things out." said Graybill.
Whitworth thanked the trio for their kind words and for introducing him to the guys.
The first game was a loss, but after a day off and a couple of meetings with their new coaching staff, the Flyers played much better, sweeping the Blazers and winning one of the first two against New Orleans. It will be interesting if the team can maintain the momentum that came with their new manager and the rest of his staff.
