The Charlotte Flyers now have results for the 10 players sent to the development lab for the second session of the offseason.
Kutsi Abas showed no improvement trying to improve his defense at 3B. While this was unfortunate, it's not overly concerning. He will move to 2B this season and likely play quite well there. He has 8 range, 6 error, 5 arm, and 7 turn DP. I was hoping to see one or more of those ratings go up but as an almost 19 year old who has seen some positive development I'm ok with his defense where it is right now.
Domingo Chavez was successful in trying to learn a new position. He learned 1B and saw less than 1 point of growth in some defensive ratings but also saw his turn DP go from 6-7. He is now a 6/10 1B, a position he had no previous rating in, and his 3B potential went from 7-8. He is currently an 8/8 at 2B where he will be playing this season.
Harry Taylor was successful in trying to improve his defense at LF. This worked out great. He improved less than one point in range and error but his arm went from 6-7. His RF defensive potential improved from 5-6. He will likely play a lot of RF in AAA this year and this is actually what I was hoping would happen.
Mitku Ndururi was successful in trying to improve his defense at 2B. He improved less than 1 in most areas but did improve from 6-7 in turn DP. His 2B defense improved from 6-7, his SS defense improved from 3-4, and his SS potential improved from 4-5. I was hoping to see his range go up to 8, but the progress he made is still nice to see.
Onan Ogun had an outstanding result in trying to improve his defense in LF. His range improved from 7-8. His error increased from 5-6. His arm increased from 6-7. He improved by 1 in current and potential defensive ratings at every outfield position. This was a phenomenal result. His potential rating in game is now up to 60.
Ben Graybill had a poor result in trying to improve his defense in LF. While this is a bit of a bummer, the big picture result here was that his RF defensive potential fell from 5-4. I have mainly had hip play 1B with a tiny bit of LF up to this point. I can still do this with no real negative impact. It would have been nice to feel a little better about his defense in LF and maybe be able to play him in RF from time to time, but it's not a big deal that he had this result.
Jorge Trujillo had an outstanding result in trying to improve his defense at LF. His range improved from 6-7. His error increased from 7-8. His arm increased from 5-6. His LF defensive ratings improved from 7/7 to 8/8 and his RF ratings improved from 4/5 to 5/6. That's all great, but unfortunately, it came in at the same time as a horrible dev report offensively. His AvK and Power potential both decreased along with his current AvK, Power, and BABIP. Honestly, a lot of those have consistently gone up and down so he's probably right on the edge of those ratings and they just all happened to drop at the same time, making his defensive gains feel a little less exciting.
Tommy Anderson showed no improvement in trying to improve his defense at 2B. I was hoping to push his SS ratings up by improving his play at 2B. Didn't work this time.
Raul Morales showed no improvement in trying to improve his defense at LF. I figured it could be useful for him to be a little better in the corner outfield spots, but at least he didn't get worse.
Tony Villa was unable to learn a new position. Not a big deal. He already improved in LF during the first session. I'm just trying to improve his overall game and create options for myself with a strong prospect.
For the 2nd session, I had 2 outstanding programs, 3 successful programs, 4 with no improvement, and 1 poor program.
Overall, for the first 2 sessions, I have had 5 outstanding results, 7 successful results, 6 no improvement results, and 2 poor results.

The Chavez result is most interesting to me. You basically figured out a way to send him thru a defensive program twice in one offseason. I'm gonna keep that trick in mind.

Yeah. I wasn't entirely sure if it would work that way for me but I was glad it did. Now that he knows all 4 infield positions, I can't improve his 2B play with that program again in the future.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 4:17 pmThe Chavez result is most interesting to me.
