Pilot Light #10: OF Ulvi Basgil gives his first Interview in Brazil
Jovan Pan News, the largest TV network in Brazil, sat down for an interview with Ulvi Basgil, the former London Monarchs superstar outfielder! After being an MVP candidate for multiple years, Ulvi had his roughest season yet, posting one of the least valuable seasons in the entire GBC. Basgil seemingly needed a change of scenery and, with the Monarchs pursuing a younger core, the São Paulo Pilots made a mutually beneficial offer.
JPN Interviewer, Amélia Justo: Good evening, everyone! We have a very special guest with us today—Ulvi Basgil, the newest member of the São Paulo Pilots! Welcome, Ulvi.
Ulvi Basgil: Thank you so much! It's great to be here.
Interviewer: You've just been traded from the London Monarchs to the São Paulo Pilots. How are you feeling about this move?
Ulvi Basgil: I'm excited! It's always a big change to move to a new team and a new city, but I'm really looking forward to this opportunity. The Pilots have a fantastic organization, and I can't wait to get started.
Interviewer: This was also the first trade made by the Pilots' new General Manager, Tyler Fioritto. How does it feel to be part of his inaugural move?
Ulvi Basgil: It's an honor. I've heard great things about Tyler Fioritto and his vision for the team. Being his first trade pick means a lot, and I hope to prove that his confidence in me is well-placed.
Interviewer: What are some of your goals for this season with the Pilots?
Ulvi Basgil: I want to contribute to the team's success as much as possible, whether that's with my batting, my defense, or helping my teammates. I'm here to give my best effort every game and help the Pilots make a strong run this season.
Interviewer: How do you feel about joining a team in Brazil, given your experience in the UK with the Monarchs?
Ulvi Basgil: It's an exciting change! Baseball is growing here in Brazil, and it's amazing to be part of that growth. I'm looking forward to immersing myself in the local culture, meeting the fans, and playing some great baseball.
Interviewer: Any message you'd like to send to the São Paulo Pilots fans?
Ulvi Basgil: Absolutely. I just want to say thank you for welcoming me with open arms. I'm ready to work hard and make you proud. Let's have an amazing season together!
Interviewer: Thank you, Ulvi. We wish you all the best with the São Paulo Pilots!
Ulvi Basgil: Thank you!
When reached for comment, Pilots GM Tyler Fioritto gave the following statement to JPN:
"We're happy to have a player like Basgil with us. Obviously, we have a losing record right now and I'm not the type of guy to celebrate progress. I note it, I want it, but I don't make that my end goal. I want us to get as close as possible to a winning season here as we can. The only players I truly want to get rid of are expiring contracts at all levels of the organization; anyone else will take an individual upgrade for me to pull the trigger. Brazil deserves a quality product and it's my job to deliver. Our market is big enough to never formally rebuild, only retool, revise and restock. Stay tuned for more trade news."

"As a season ticket holder for the São Paulo Pilots, I can genuinely say that there's something special brewing with this team. The atmosphere at our games is electrifying—the fans are loyal, passionate, and create an incredible environment that makes every game feel like a grand event.
I've watched this team grow and develop, and I'm confident that the Pilots are on the path to greatness. The players are committed, and the new management under Tyler Fioritto has brought a refreshing sense of direction and purpose. The recent changes and additions to our roster have only strengthened my belief that our baseball performance will soon match the amazing atmosphere we experience every game.
We're ready to take on any challenge, and I have no doubt that the best is yet to come. Whoever waits always achieves. Let's go, Pilots!"
-Estevão Ambrósio de Souza, Pilots Season Ticket Holder since 2055.
