Hammer Time - End of the 2059 Season

Post by Jess64 » Sat Jul 13, 2024 2:48 pm

The season started with a bang...and ended with a whimper.

The Hebrew Hammers came out of the gate racking up wins like most people collect pennies. There didnt seem to be a team that could slow the Hammers down. Other GBC GMs were already starting to talk about how the Hammers would be the team to win the GBC title for the year.

But Hebrew Hammers General Manager Stollings would preach caution, every time he could he reminded people that there was still quite alot of baseball left to play and anything could happen.

As the season progressed, the dominance of the Hammers started to waiver, until by the final days it was apparent that while the Hammers were still on top of their division, Cairo had assumed the top of the GBC. Their run at the end of the season which saw them losing only 20% of their games showed they were peaking at the right time and for anyone to dethrone them in the playoffs would take alot of luck...and Stollings privately was saying that he felt like the Hammers luck had run out.

Even though Stollings felt the Hammers would need luck to pull off a series victory against the high-riding Cairo team, he didnt let him deter him in his effort to put the Hammers into the best possible position to win. His plans took a massive hit when the Hammer's top ace, Juan Garcia, took his 16-4 record to the Disabled List for the duration of the playoffs.

Stollings bad feelings were to come to fruition as they fell to Cairo 1-4 in the championship series. Even though the team did not lift the championship at the end of the season, they did put on some top-in-class performances.

In that regard, the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers are proud to announce their end of season awards:

Ace In The Hole Award: This was an easy choice as 32-year-old SP Juan Garcia was recognized as the best pitcher for the Hammers in the 2059 season. His record of 16-4 with a ERA of 2.71 and a WAR of 4.4 showed why he was considered the class of the rotation. The Hammers are excited to be able bring him back for the 2060 season and hope he continues to lead the Hammer's rotation.

Bring In The Reliever Award: This one was actually harder than it appeared to be at first look. But after talking to other members of the staff, this was awarded to our 35-year-old Bartolo Romero and his impressive 7-5 records and an outstanding 46 saves was vital to the season-long success success. Unfortunately the Hammers have not been able to secure his services for the 2060 season...yet...but I am assured they will continue to try.

We Need A Hit Award: This was probably the easiest award of the season to give as 31-year-old Ira Patterson and his league-leading BA of .361 added this award to his growing trophy case. His 95 RBIs and WAR of 4.4 showed his value to the Hammers in the 2059 season. Ira expressed his joy with the Hammers organization as he had signed a 2-year extension to stay with the organization through the 2061 season.

Hit it My Way, I Dare You Award: We looked at the position of the player, their rating for that position and the number of errors committed while playing there as we evaluated players for this award. The decision was made to present this to 2nd Baseman Prabhu Vogelsang . This 33-year-old held down the vital space in the middle of the infield for 105 games. During this time, he committed only 7 errors while earning an impressive Zone Rating of +10.6. He also was a part of 64 Double Plays as he did his part to keep the opposition off of the bases. The Hammers are pleased to have gotten Prabhu to sign an extension that will see him stay in Jerusalem for 2 more years.

While the Hebrew Hammers were not able to bring home the GBC Championship Trophy they were able to put some impressive performances together on the diamond. The "team first" mentality of the players was expressed as all of the people recognized said the same thing...none of this matters if we dont win the championship.

Yea, that is what we like to hear! So the season as ended...on to the next one and giving our all again!
