2060.01 - Sharks Down Under - Interim GM Appointed, Robots to be Banished

The GBC announced a number of management changes today, including one relevant to your Sydney Sharks. Following a rudderless season that saw vast neglect of the team's minor league system, BBA Vice Commissioner Stephen Lane will be stepping in as Interim General Manager.

The farm system was nearly bare at some levels, necessitating the BBA to tap into the emergency reserve of humanoid robots, lovingly dubbed "Joe Unknown." The early-2000's era Boston Dynamics robots were acquired by the BBA at steep discount from industry and academia after they were deemed obsolete for their prior uses. After some crude re-programming, the bots were made able to participate in "baseball activity." As you might expect, the bots do not perform at the requisite level for professional baseball.

A statement from the office of the Vice Commisioner reads, "We deploy our Joe Unknown's only when absolutely necessary, as it is a detriment to prospect development and league reputation. We provide support and encouragement to new GMs in the GBC, but understand that the league is a uniquely challenging environment. After giving previous management time to rectify the situation, it was determined that the best course of action was installing Lane as Interim General Manager."

It is an open secret that Lane is a fan of robots, and some have even posited that Lane himself is a robot. We reached out to the Office of the Vice Commissioner for comment about this, but did not receive a reply at time of publishing. To be frank, we would be surprised if this is the last we see of robots in Sydney.

"I look forward to righting the ship, and setting up our next GM for success," stated Lane. "With Long Beach unfortunately missing the playoffs this season, this was the perfect time for me to take on some additional work. We'll be busy extending offers to free agents to build back better, and before long we'll make the Sydney Sharks great again. We're not going back to the mistakes of the past."
