2061 Shark Bites TN No. 3 - Sydney History

Post by thatboynicecoast » Wed Nov 13, 2024 1:19 am

A first in Sydney Sharks franchise history has occurred.

Infielder Wattas Hondo hit for the cycle on May 5, 2061, becoming the first player in the 11-year history of the Sharks franchise in Sydney to do so. Hondo was 4-for-6 at the plate with 4 RBIs while batting leadoff against the Athens Fighting Centaurs during a 7-4 road win.

Hondo tripled in the third inning, picked up an RBI double in the fifth, singled in the seventh and blasted a three-run home run in the eighth off the arm of Brian Chappell.

"I felt just about perfect up there," Hondo told the Baseball News Network.

The franchise had not had a player hit for the cycle since moving to Sydney ahead of the 2051 season. Four different players accomplished the feat for the Sharks' predecessor, the Mumbai Metro Stars. Those were Santiago Lopez (2040), Jack Bullock (2041), Ramon Vela (2043) and Chuck Dickens (2050).

The 23-year-old Hondo is the Global Baseball Consortium's No. 10 prospect and the organization's top-ranked prospect. Hondo is slashing .248/.293/.401/.694 (88 OPS+) in 34 games this season.

The Sharks are 18-18 and 6 games back in the division.

Not a bad defender either. Better at third than short but won't kill you there either.

Definitely a natural 3B, but Howard Walsh and his 4 IF Range was our starting SS when I dropped in so a change needed to be made.

If we can hold everything intact, the long term plan is sliding Hondo back home when 1.2 Arakchaa debuts.
