Double-A Montevideo Leones
So we’re now a month into the first ever UMEBA Double-A season and things are probably right where Cairo thought Montevideo would be. Despite having several top prospects playing there (see : viewtopic.php?f=108&t=31420&sid=f1f37d0 ... ccfa312164) it was always going to be a case of wait and see after Cairo signed 24 minor league FA’s to fill the bulk of the roster. 10 were promoted from 2040’s A ball and one made it by being demoted from Triple-A Nairobi. The jumble of players started well and flirted with an over .500 record, but as we reach the end of the first month they are two games below .500 (17-19) exactly halfway in the league of 10.
24-yr-old Marcus Hodgson, once an 11th round pick of Boise, has been mashing the ball with five homers but also been patient enough to walk 10 times. 23-yr-old Ricardo Ortega despite his young age has already been through three BBA franchises and Cairo is his second UMEBA franchise. He is currently leading the Leones in EBH with 14 and his plate discipline has also brought him 23 walks. 23-yr-old Justin Montgomery, another that has had multiple BBA & UMEBA teams, has been pretty bad defensively at first base but leads the team in homers & RBI.
On the pitching side top prospect Frazer Pond has a 2-1 record from five starts and has also had a brief injury replacement call up to Nairobi where in two starts he posted a 0-1 record with a 4.50 ERA. 18-yr-old Damon Urry, an UMEBA 2nd round pick in 2040, has three saves from his setup role while 24-yr-old Kunisada Shimizu, an undrafted player, has started his last three games. It is his first pro club and all three games were lost, but he only shipped two runs in each game.
