GBC DEFENSE BY PLAYS MADE ABOVE AVERAGE

Shaking off the cobwebs and getting my game log scripts adjusted for league changes...I think I've about got them settled. So, with that, here's the fist cut of way-too early defensive data for the GBC.

"Plays Above Average" is a metric that I get by scanning the game logs, assessing where every GB/FB/LD gets hit on balls in play, and then assessing how your team did in converting them to outs relative to that league average.

This just confirms that Athens is indeed horrible at defense, and there is a reason why our BABIP is so high (not just bad luck)

This is really interesting, I wonder if the in game log scraping would correlate with the expanded fielding stats found on the fielding tab for each player.

For example Blair Peyton exhibits the following stats:

Routine Balls 56/56
Likely Balls 18/18
Even Balls 15/18
Unlikely Balls 25/32
Remote Balls 18/28
Impossible Balls 35

It would be interesting to understand how the game logs correlate to the aforementioned data.

At one point I had a script that attempted to predict a teams defensive efficiency and ZR based on the balls in play data. I will have to see if I can dig that up and get it going again.
