Baltimore Bulletin 2012-1 Offseason Departures

Post by nverhoev » Mon Sep 09, 2013 6:48 pm

Offseason Good Byes :bye:

Here’s the list of departures from the 2012 Baltimore Monarchs. Some good long time Monarchs found new homes for the 2013 season.

Enrique Reyna – It was hard to let go of Reyna who was the Monarchs top prospect when I became the Baltimore GM. Twelve seasons and 327 Saves later he became a free agent and signed a 2 year deal with Marquette. I offered him something close to what he ended up signing in Marquette during the 201a regular season. I guess that’s just the way it goes. He leaves as the modern day franchise leader in saves.

Laddy Charleston – Charleston was always a great reliever but didn’t get the recognition he deserved because I never used him as a closer. I tried very hard to re-sign him but I don’t like paying relievers so here we are. He got a nice deal with Madison and looks to have fit in quite well. He leaves as the modern day franchise leader in pitching appearances.

Yin-xiang Yi – Yi was a very good starter on a Monarchs team that didn’t have much pitching from 2005 to 2009 putting up over 17 WAR in those four seasons. He struggled with some control lumping issues in recent years and I just thought it was time for him to move on. Madison snapped up Yi and have been using him in both relief and as a starter.

Parker Giorgi- I grabbed him on waivers late in 2011 after McKeever and Baeza got hurt and used him primarily out of the bullpen. He was never going to be more than a rental guy and has since lumped a lot and signed in the EBA.

Ray Crabb – I signed him to back up Jim Dunn for a year and he did a decent job. Another guy that was never going to be re-signed and ended up going to Seattle. Still has good defense but his contact has dipped lately. I was hoping to get him back on a minor league deal for depth but that wasn't to be.

For about 4 years there, Yi was pretty darn valuable for you.

Also, it was no secret I loved Laddy and tried hard to get him. If anything, I drove the price up. :)

Reyna is doing well in marquette... no saves but a very low ERA. Love the pickup so far..
