Seattle Storms newly-designated slugger, 33-year old Bill Fairn, is raising eyebrows around the league with his individual achievement and team contribution this season.
Fairn, a platoon first baseman from Vancouver, leads the Storm with a .352 batting average with 13 homers and 42 RBIs thus far. Fairn has already surpassed his total of homeruns for the past 3 seasons combined (12) and has almost equaled his runs batted in (46) over the same time frame.
Fairn, considered a popular leader in the clubhouse by his teammates, entered the league in 1997 as an undrafted Free Agent, and has basically been a bench player until now. Despite his stats, Fairn is considered to be a fierce competitor which caused him to receive a 6 game suspension in 2003 after being ejected for arguing a strike call and again in 2006, receiving a 2 game sit-down following a brawl.
On the flip side of Fairn’s altercations, he has been selected the RHML Player of the Week 3 times; once in 2003 and twice in 2004, and captured his first MBBA Player of the Week on May 5 after posting a .346 average with 9 hits in 26 at-bats, 5 home runs and 11 RBIs.
Fairn is on pace to post career-high totals 47 HRs and 151 RBIs and should be in the conversation to receive an invitation to this years’ All Star Celebration if his performance continues.

Thats a weird statline he had for 2007; 121 games, 117 at-bats, only 34.2 innings in the field, and NO GAMES STARTED!
So his .282/.336/.462/.797 2007 stat line was pretty much all derived from pinch-hitting.
Thats very impressive - (and odd) - How did you accomplish that?
But, in retrospect, gives some indication of his possible breakout this year...
