Omaha entered the 2062 season as a wild card team and you would find different opinions on where they would finish. In 2060 Omaha won 73 games last season they had a massive jump all the way to 84 wins and barely missing the playoffs. The 2062 Omaha team is looking like last year was an outlier as they returned to only winning 69 games this season. 69 wins is the lowest win total Omaha has had in 20 seasons after they won 63 games in 2041. GM Spencer said this year was definitely a disappointment for the organization, but we learned a lot about our organization which is going to help us long term.
I believe every season is a success GM Spencer said, some seasons you just have to look harder to find the successes within the season. Stan Lodge continued his early success in the BBA. In his second full season in the BBA he improved on most offensive categories. Lodge was really able to cut down on the strike outs and put the ball in play this year. With his .363 OBP and a 113 OPS+ that made him one of the greatest threats in the Omaha lineup. We believe we have something special in Lodge and we learned a lot of about him this year.
Jorge Delgado rebounded to have a great season for us despite last season being a season he wanted to forget. We actually considered sending him down to AAA last season to just let him relax but in the end we just wanted him to know we believed in him and we just wanted to see him through his struggles. 2062 was quite the rebound as he hit .310 with 24 HR and 102 RBI, we believe this is the real Jorge Delgado and last years Delgado has been buried. I might have been a little over confident after the 2060 season and didn't have the proper mindset last season, i am really understanding the mental side of the game better Jorge said.
Pat Loder was perhaps the biggest surprise to Omaha this season as he made his first all star appearance. Loder is one of the best defensive RF in the league and guess what he can swing a bat as well. Hitting 5th in the lineup for most of the season Loder hit .278 with 18 HR and 80 RBI. We started to see some changes in Loder last season and we felt it could carry into this season and he did not disappoint. We believe Loder can do this again next year.
We have had a similar approach the past couple off-season's. We have tried to invest in short term goals taking some flyers on some folks and see how it worked out. A season ago we had great success with that strategy but this year it did not work out. But we are excited about many of our younger guys and the progress they have made. We are ready to get going this offseason once the playoffs conclude, not sure on our approach yet but we will be ready to go in multiple directions.
2062.4 Omaha season has concluded
