Okay… So I have this catcher, Akihiro Yamamoto. He’s spent most of the year in AAA, which is probably where he belongs, but I recently ran into a numbers crunch in AAA, and I demoted him to AA Trenton for a sim or two.
So, he’s only come to the plate twice in his brief time in Trenton. In those two plate appearances he’s singled and apparently hit a sacrifice fly. So he’s batting 1.000, but his OBP is only .500. And, even though his batting average is 1.000, his BABIP is just .500.
I just have a hard time wrapping my head around this.
By the way, if anyone is looking for a catcher who can be stashed in AAA and not embarrass you if you need him as a backup in the majors, Akihiro would be available for very little- cash or a short season guy. He’s 25, and has a career batting average in the minors of well over .300. I just have no place to play him.

Yeah. OBP counts plate appearances against hits, walks, HBP and rare unicorns like catchers interference.
