2060.29 A frustrated phone call

Charlotte general manager Nathan Garrison picked up his cube to call his assistant general manager Ron Mosely.

“AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! MIKE COX!”

Moseley sat quietly on the other line. He wasn’t sure if his boss meant to call him or if this was an incredibly awkward accident.

“THIS GUY IS ABSOLUTELY KILLING ME!”

Mosely decided to speak up. “Boss?”

“Yes Ron, of course this is me. Who did you think it was? What the hell are we going to do about Mike Cox?”

Moseley waited a moment before answering. “Umm…I guess I’m not really sure.”

“What am I paying you for? What do you actually do around here anyway? Ugh. Never mind that. I’m just extra pissed today because we had to make a big deal about Cox getting his 1,000th career hit when he’s playing like a guy who would have trouble getting a hit in tee ball right now.”

“I get it. The guy is playing horribly for us. I heard yesterday that when he ran out to center field in one of the games against Mexico City, some of the fans were so upset they threw little blue pills on the field and yelled “Get up for the game Cox!” when he came out of the dugout to start the game.”

“Ha! I know we can’t have people throwing things on the field but I’d be ok with letting that one slide. Well, whatever. I told Angelo that we need to start giving Frazier more playing time and sitting Cox more often. I just really hate that I made that trade. I know. Some trades are good. Some trades are bad. But this one feels like the worst possible deal. Our bullpen has been a mess and Ngo has actually been solid for Vegas this year. Not to mention Rojas, who is still looking like he could be something. And we traded him for this guy? “AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! MIKE COX!”

Moseley just agreed quietly that the deal hasn’t worked out and Garrison ended the call.

Yes, what the hell do those assistant GMs do? I think they can evaluate proposed trades in game, but I dunno what else.
