Silva shipped to Brooklyn, younger pitcher acquired.(44.36)

Carlos Silva has been in AAA this entire season after getting a glimpse at the BBA last season. After Juan Ruiz was called up, many had Silva pegged as the next man up and some expected him to be granted that call up after Stephen Clulow and Jose Lima were both shifted to the pen before the announcement of Hayashi taking one of those rotation spots surprised some.

Silva has been very good in AAA, having a 3.47 ERA through 168 innings, with a 3.78 FIP. Surely enough to justify a call up to the big leagues.

Now, Silva, who was the BBA’s 70th overall prospect in the 2044 rankings, finds himself heading out of Omaha completely and starting for another team all together.
“We really like Carlos and will miss him in our system. We simply felt we had depth at the BBA level that was unfair to penalize Carlos for it. He should have been a starter to begin this season and we wish him nothing but the best”---Omaha GM Justin Niles.
Heading back to Omaha was Brooklyn’s top pitching prospect Grux Parks. Parks, who is 20 years old likely is a year or two away from being ready to contribute at the BBA level, which fits Omaha’s general timeline, especially if Aki Kondo exercises his opt out.

In 183 innings in AAA this season for Brooklyn, Parks has a 2.75 ERA and 3.80 FIP, striking out 120 batters and walking 43.

Also heading to Omaha was a minor league player by the name of Juan Carlos Gonzalez. Gonzalez is a first baseman who profiles to hit the ball about average, however does not have the ability to hit the gaps nor hit for power at the BBA level. Gonzalez however does have the ability to turn singles into doubles because of his ability on the base paths. He has 17 stolen bases in 493 at bats, so despite the speed, doesn’t appear to have been overly aggressive.

In AA this year, Gonzalez is batting .300/.394/.400 with a 113 OPS+.

UPDATE: Carlos Silva did well in his first start for Brooklyn lasting 5.1 innings, and allowing 2 earned runs against Las Vegas. His team’s 9-3 victory also gave Silva his first career win at the BBA level.
