Diamonds and Pearls 2041.5 - The Newest Pearls, the 2041 Draft Class

Post by tallywood » Thu Jan 16, 2020 9:21 am

The 2041 Draft Class has been finalized, and the newest Pearls are here!

Round 1, Pick 4:
  • 1B Ivan Thomas - 16 year old high schooler out of Honiara who slashed .359/.446/.748 with 20 HR and 49 RBI. The Pearls see this guy as a solid young bat that, with a little work at first base, can be a star.
Round 2, Pick 4:
  • RHP Bruno Bugbie - Teammate of the Pearls' first pick, this 16 year old righty threw an impressive 44 innings with a 1.23 ERA, a 4-1 record, and a 46 K to 5 BB differential. He was also voted unanimously to be captain of the high school team, and earned a 4.0 GPA.
Round 2, Pick 5:
  • LF Reginald Millar - another 16 year old high schooler, but out of Tonga with a split of .284/.369/.561, 11 HR, 23 RBI, 4 doubles, 2 triples, and 20 stolen bases. This kid is a monster in the weight room, but that might have had an impact on his low GPA. He also has some gaffes in the outfield and on the base paths at time--hopefully the Pearls can clean that up.
Round 3, Pick 4:
  • 3B Jarrod Peet - this Austrailian high schooler slashed for .281/.376/.554 with 9 HR, 30 RBI, and 9 doubles. He has great arm strength from the hot corner and can hit into the gaps.
Round 4, Pick 4:
  • 1B Nick Selkirk - another teammate from Honiara, this high schooler displayed some of the best contact in this draft class, but is a little swing happy. He struck out 29 times, but still hit for a .309 average, 11 HR, and 9 doubles.
Round 5, Pick 4:
  • SS Thomas Hodnett - a 17 year old high schooler from the Tarawa Sun Kings was obviously drafted for his incredible glove, range, and work ethic. He only hit for a .217 average, so that should tell you how good his glove can be.
Round 6, Pick 4:
  • 1B Vinnie Youngberry - the third first-baseman of the draft slashed .331/.416/.589, 10 HR, 18 RBI. He has the opposite problem that Selkirk has--he doesn't swing much and might be too selective. He has struck out 26 times, but has taken 18 walks.
Round 7, Pick 4:
  • LF Norm Kimpton - The second 4.0 GPA of the draft class who has a cannon. However, that might be the best of what he has to offer.
Round 8, Pick 4:
  • 1B Lindsay Dobbs - the fourth and final first-baseman of the draft, and the second player out of Tarawa High School. He is the definition of boom or bust at the plate, and struggles with the glove. Definitely a project for the Pearls
