The Instanbul Bosphorus began the week with a 3 game series in Bagdad against the Kings.

Game 1 was a 4-0 masterpiece thrown by SP Bert Hackworth. Hackworth struck out three while allowing 5 hits and a walk. He is now 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA on the season.
LF Rich Ayers and 3B Ken Pyke led the offensive charge with homers. Ayers hit a solo shot in the 3rd while Pyke put icing on the cake with a 2-run bomb in the 8th.
The Kings did not help their own cause as they committed three errors in the loss.

Final score: Istanbul wins 4-0

Game 2 saw another complete game win by Istanbul as SP Bernardino Bertoletti flashed a strong pitch hand allowing just 1 unearned run on 3 hits while striking out 3. Bertoletti threw just 107 pitches on the way to his 3rd victory of the season against 1 loss. He is sporting a 3.90 ERA.

On offense, 2B Juan Rodriguez smacked his 4th homer of the season while going 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.

But the hitter of the game was LF John Garcia. Garcia was 2 for 3 with a walk, scored 2 runs and drove in 2.

Final score: Instanbul wins 6-1

Game 3 was a close, low scoring contest that evolved into a close, high scoring win for the Bosphorus to complete the sweep of the Kings.

SP Claudio Escobedo pitched 6 1/3 strong innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and a walk. He struck out 5 and threw 99 pitches. RP Rodrigo Lugo was slapped around by the Kings after relieving Escobedo. He allowed 4 runs on 4 hits and a walk while geeing just 1 out.

This put Instanbul down 7-4 before having an unearned run score in the 8th off of RP Kunz Shuck. Istanbul raged back in the 9th scoring 4 runs off of RP Lucas Meech. The big hit was a 3 run bomb by 1B Bai-luo Jiu . SS Jose Lopez then walked it off in the bottom of the 10th with his 3rd homer of the season. Lopez was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and that big ribeye steak sandwich.

Final score: Instanbul sweeps 9-8.

The Manama Pearls were the next visitor to the Istanbul Grounds for a 3 game set.

Game 2 started slowly for both teams but then Manama struck in the 2nd, 4th and 5th innings to take a 5-2 lead. The Pearls then scored 5 more in the 9th to turn the game into a laugher.

Nice when you can “fall” to 29-13! I enjoyed the write-up - Istanbul is in good hands.
