HOF Analysis: SP

Post by usnspecialist » Fri Apr 26, 2019 5:12 am

Shown below is a chart of all of the Starting Pitchers enshrined in the BBA HOF, along with their career stats. The green filled box indicates they are above their positional average, the red or white indicates they are below the average. Due to size I split the chart into left and right, but the averages on top reflect them both.

Shown below is the average and color chart with Steve Nebraska and his numbers removed.
SP Non Neb Total L.PNG

This chart shows how far away from the average each player is at a given stat. 1.00 is exactly the mean, higher numbers are good, lower numbers are bad. This is not a perfect chart because it gives every stat the exact same weight, which isnt exactly accurate but it gives a decent picture of what we are looking at.

The game did not track Quality Starts before 1995, so for those who spent all or the majority of their career before that I listed them as N/A so the average wouldnt be thrown off.

Updating this to reflect new numbers with Ricardo Diaz and Enrique Gomez added. The top charts are with Steve Nebraska, the bottom 2 are without him. Both charts are sorted by JAWS.

For those wondering, Vernon Simpson has no JAWS because he only played 6 seasons and JAWS is an average of your overall WAR and the WAR from your best 7 seasons.

Very cool, thanks Randy!

Few things:

1. What was the argument for the inclusion Bryan Walden and Perry Eccles???
2. Is John Ross Riles' QS% (17%) due to the stat starting in the middle of his career (therefore not actually accurate)?
3. Allen Izatt sure had an interesting final career stat line.

2. Yes
3. He sure did.

If you are curious I have done these for every position. Scroll back a few pages on the league features forum.
