2022, Hall of Fame Results
The voting is done for 2022, and the MBBA Hall of Fame will be welcoming two new members to its ranks.
1B Alberto "Pops" Guzman, Long Beach Surfers
Guzman might be the last player to go in as a Surfer (now the Tucson Cactus). What a career he had, culminating in a 100% election to the Hall of Fame. It all started in High School, where with IBM he was probably the best high school player in history. He was picked #1 overall by Long Beach in 2002, and started his climb through the minors. He debuted in 2005, and his first two years in the bigs were both .800+ OPS years. In 2007, he became an uber-star, as his OPS soared to 1.001, the first of four times in his career that he crossed the magic 1.000 OPS mark. It would also be the first of six times he hit 40 or more homers, and the first of ten times that he drove in 100 or more runs. 2007 was also the year of his first All-Star election, something he would accomplish twelve times in his MBBA career. He also won his first Sawyer Silk Award in 2007. He'd end up winning three (2007, 2009, 2010). Career leaderboards: OBP (20th), SLG (19th), Runs (15th), Hits (22nd), Total Bases (14th), Home Runs (8th), RBI (10th), BB (9th).
SP Michael "Boy Scout" Strathallan, Marquette Suns
Like Guzman for the Surfers, Strathallan might be the last hurrah for the Marquette Suns (now Indy Grasshoppers). He was elected with 77.27% of the vote after struggling to get into the Hall for a few seasons. While Strat's career may have lacked in length, the peak years were as Nebraska-esque as any pitcher in the modern era. Strathallan was the #1 overall pick in the 2004 Draft by the Louisville Sluggers. He did make it up to the bigs in September 2005 for a cup of coffee with the Sluggers, where he was 1-3 with a 3.95 ERA in 4 starts. In the offseason, he was dealt to Marquette in a ten player mega-deal. As I called it in that thread, Marquette certainly got the better end of the deal, as Strathallan became the most feared pitcher in the league for a stretch. He won 20 games four times, struck out more than 200 batters in a season seven times. He was the 2006 JL Joe Gillstrom Newcomer of the Year winner. He won the Steve Nebraska Award in three consecutive seasons (2010, 2011, 2012) and was a six time MBBA All-Star. In 2014 Omaha traded seven players to get Strathallan. He won a total of 13 games as a Barnstormer, and underwent Tommy John surgery in June of 2015. Shortly thereafter the Barnstormers dealt him to Calgary for three prospects who wouldn't work out, and after recovering from the surgery he struggled to comeback in 2016, but had a brief resurgence in 2017. It wasn't the same guy, though, and after being relegated to the bullpen in 2018, he left the MBBA for the EBA. He pitched two seasons for the Amsterdam Neptunes, and then called it a career after the 2020 season. Career Leaderboards: ERA (71st), Wins (55th), Games Started (98th), Complete Games (18th), Shutouts (3rd), Innings Pitched (68th), Strikeouts (61st).

Very happy to see Strat get in. I may have to do a player profile of that kid someday.

I'm still surprised some of these guys didn't get more love, but it's the way it goes, right?

Re: 2022, Hall of Fame Results
I was thinking Jim Wilson and Eric Martin would garner more votes as well. Especially Martin... he was a top notch 2B for a long time. His 2010 season was one heck of a year.

Re: 2022, Hall of Fame Results
If those 2 Strat trades (to MRQ and to OMA) aren't a cautionary tale for over-valuing prospects then I don't know what is.

Hoping Crocker can make it in one day. Martin too would be great.

I'm also surprised Tobias Kelly didn't get more votes. He was one of the best players in the game for a while and easily one of the top catchers.
Re: 2022, Hall of Fame Results
After seeing Swanson get robbed of the Pitcher of the Year award, nothing surprises me anymore by the way the league votes! 8)

Re: 2022, Hall of Fame Results
Obviously I don't have the sense of history you guys do, but it seems from looking at the hall that then non OF/1B/DH players just don't get any voting love. A lot of those guys all of you just mentioned looked to me like they were the best at their positions for 4-5 seasons and had long productive careers where they well above average in the vast majority of the other years. To me that defines a hall of famer, but like I said, I'm the new guy. Still, 47 batters inducted and half the position players to ever play (2B,3B, SS, C) and only represented by 19 guys is a bit odd.
