The Slugger Sentinel 01.07

Post by ryankcollins » Mon Dec 20, 2010 4:41 pm

STARTING PITCHER OF THE SIM:
John Doherty. John went 1-0, with a 1.26 ERA, and 12 strikeouts in 14.3 innings, and a 0.77 WHIP. Overall, his year has been consistent and it's acceptable, but there seems to be a lack of offense. For the season, he has started 17 games, with a 7-5 record, 3.39 ERA in 109IP, with a WHIP of 1.14. The bats need to start giving this guy what he deserves.

RELIEF PITCHER OF THE SIM:
Ramon Baca. Ramon has definitely come in handy and I am very glad that I got him in the Nastay trade. For this prevous sim, Ramon pitched 4.3 innings, did not give up a single run, 4 hits against, and 4 strikeouts. The bullpen has been surprising; not exactly what I expected. I thought the bullpen was the "roughest" piece of the Sluggers, but they are doing their part--nothing amazing but nothing terrible either. Kurt Hass had a bit of a slump going 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA, but that is entirely unusual for him. I expect Kurt to have a better outing next sim.

1st HITTER OF THE SIM
Rick Mascarenas. Rick has a really good sim. He played in 8 of the 9 games, batted .393 with 11 hits, 2 HR, and 6 RBI. It was nice to see Rick have a nice hitting sim because he has been slightly down and out with an overall batting average of only .245 this season. Hopefully Rick's bat will continue producing base hits like this last sim and we can get some pop in those bats; I am sure the starting pitchers would not mind that.

2nd HITTER OF THE SIM
Pio Vallejo. For some strange reason, I just love this kid. Maybe it's because he reminds me of myself when I played. It was pretty much all-or-nothing where hits either came or three strikes prevailed. In the last sim, Pio batted .303 with 10 hits in 33AB's, 3 of those hits were HRs, and he batted in 10. He has definitely provided power for the bats with 13 total HRs this season and 53 RBIs.

OVERALL
The Sluggers put up a 3-6 record on this last stretch, which was anything but good. It seems that the Sluggers are either playing .500 ball or below it. It is difficult for us to get above that .500 line a stretch at a time, but I'm hoping that a couple moves will fix that. The Sluggers took a hit as Akiru Matsumoto got injured and will be sidelined for at least 3 weeks. We look forward to seeing Billy "Goat" Gauthreaux at first and have him in the every day lineup instead of just against LHP's.

Something must change or there will be people shipping out of Louisville to prepare for next season. :deadhorse:

Another team with serious cap issues - but few personnel issues until this year. It'll either get worse before it gets better, or it's gotten as bad as it's gonna get.

I have a feeling it will get a little worse.
