Moonshiners Monitor, Vol. 1.4

Post by lchronister » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:10 pm

When you go 17-9 with a 1.75 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 251 ERA+ and an 8.16 K/9 mark and win the JL Steve Nebraska Golden Arm Award, the chances of you winning your arbitration hearing in the offseason are pretty good.

Sure enough, that was the case for Greenville ace Jay Lee, who received a one-year, $4.6 million contract from the arbiter three days ago.

The Moonshiners had offered a figure of $2.646 million for the deal, which promptly was shot down at the discussion table.

"Some of the more veteran members of the front office told me that they expected Lee to get around $2.6 million from the arbiter," said Levi Chronister, the team's new general manager. "So, that's what we offered, figuring we wouldn't be that far off. We'll know better next time."

The only other Moonshiner up for arbitration this offseason was CF Jeff McNeely, but the 27-year-old reserve signed a one-year extension for $520,000 just days before his arbitration meeting was scheduled. He's expected to be the team's backup centerfielder and occasional pinch-hitter this season, though there's a chance the team could sign or trade for a reserve outfielder who would push him to the minors.

Yeha, that's a steal of an arbitration award on Lee. Crazy.

Especially considering the game is saying Hayes will get around $8 million in his first arby year. I know he's an everyday player, but I can't see him being worth nearly twice what Lee is.

At the pace this league is going I think Pants could crank out 300 TNs in a season.

Son of a bitch. Pisith Beng got a $3.4M award. That's absurd.

That's why I waived him last year. I knew he'd be grossly overpaid.
