Sucks so bad when it happens to your team, especially to a decent player.

I know. I'm on pins & needles until my top pitching prospect gets back.

I'm almost of the opinion that every pitcher should go ahead and have Tommy Johns surgery scheduled immediately after being signed to get it out of the way. In OOTP leagues and real life. It's gonna happen anyway...

Could have been the second coming of "The Dude" Wachowski. Too bad.

But would that be considered "performance enhancement"?

Dr. James Andrews (I think everyone knows who he is) - who's main office is in Birmingham, FWIW - was interviewed in ESPNtheMag 2 or 3 episodes back and asked why, at 70, is he not pondering retirement. He said he is determined to see the United States gain some common sense regarding stem cells. Right now, American doctors are getting their asses kicked by docs in Europe and Asia (a certain famous NFL QB that was injured seriously enough a few years ago to ponder retirement while his slightly less famous younger brother kept playing quietly had himself basically smuggled into and out of an unnamed European nation where he underwent a stem cell procedure).

On the subject of performance enhancement in baseball, can someone explain to me how that category includes marijuana? I say that as a guy who got tabbed to catch a high school game and actually had this exact conversation with our starting pitcher after his 1st inning warmup throws:

Me: "So, you throwing the knuckler today?"
Him: "Dude, I am soooo high right now..."
Me: *sigh* "Fuck me..." <after turning and walking back to the plate>
Me to Umpire: "Bulldog, you got your cup in today?"
Umpire: "Why? You better be stopping shit before it hits me..."
Me: "I'll try, man, but I have no idea what he's gonna be throwin'..."

Yep, really. There were two umps that worked nearly every high school game in our county as a squad: Bulldog (so short that he didn't bother bending his knees when behind the catcher and had such a big belly that he didn't bother wearing a cup...a piece of trivia we learned one tragic evening when a foul tip went down under the catcher and bounced up underneath his belly like there were GPS coordinates on his jewels - it's tough, when you're a teenager, to see a grown man cry) and George (in much better shape but also much older and prone to complete "WTF?!?!" calls...like the game one of our players hit a liner to center that the opposing centerfielder made an impressive diving try for but couldn't glove it, still - in a flash of genius I suppose - he jumped up, ran the couple of steps to the ball, picked it up off the ground and held it over his head which confused all of us, but it confused poor George so badly he called our hitter out; I guess he thought if the young man was that certain he'd just take his word for it).
