Duke Silver had a big day on Sunday. Despite spending most of the extra-inning affair against the Montreal Blazers on the bench, Silver delivered a memorable moment that sent fans into a frenzy. He then kept the party going after the game with a jazz concert.

Francisco Ayala started the game behind the plate for the Flyers, but was lifted in the bottom of the ninth inning for pinch hitter Juan Sánchez, who was stranded at first base after drawing a walk.

Sanchez was replaced by Silver, who came into the game to catch during extras. He was behind the plate for two scoreless innings thrown by relievers Pedro Martínez and Felipe Herrera before getting the opportunity to step up to the plate for the first time on Tuesday he day in the eleventh inning.

With a man out and two runners on base, the young backstop delivered a walk-off RBI single on a sharp ground ball past the shortstop. His teammates mobbed him as they all celebrated the dramatic victory.

After a brief break, and a group of team employees setting up a stage in centerfield, Silver, his band manners, and several of his teammates reemerged from the clubhouse.

Silver, and his drummer and bass player , made their way to the stage to perform a lineup of jazz charts for the fans who stayed for the concert. Many of the on-field seats were occupied by rather enthusiastic middle aged women fawning over the young ball player/musician.

Silver and his band, Sax Appeal, played the following setlist, comprised of some jazz standards and some originals:

St. Thomas by Sonny Rollins
Relax, Take it Easy by Duke Silver
Ornithology by Charlie Parker
Parks and Recreation by Duke Silver
Blue Train by John Coltrane
Walk Through Fire With Me by Duke Silver
Backstop Blues by Duke Silver
Fly High Flyers (A cover of the Mikki Manning hit written for the Charlotte baseball club after her son, Lucas McNeill Jr. was drafted by the Flyers, but before he was traded to Nashville.)

After the concert, Silver vowed that this would not be the last time that he and his band performed for the great fans of the Charlotte Flyers. He also promised to continue getting big hits for the team.

Awesome.

Now we need a Duke Silver album.

And, yeah, Mikki Manning has always been able to write a helluva song.
