2065.03 Hall of Fame: The Case for Eduardo González

Post by Bob Breum » Tue Nov 18, 2025 9:15 am

There are only four players with 80+ WAR in the BBA who have not yet been elected to the Hall of Fame. All of them are on this ballot. They are:

PosPlayerWARLast YrYrs on Ballot
3BEduardo González84.460.6%4
3BTony Frost81.960.6%3
RFJeffrey Smith80.863.6%3
LFFelipe Vega80.469.7%3
All of them deserve your vote, but I’m here on behalf of Eduardo González.

González played third base. There are 15 third basemen in the Hall. Below is the list with González and Frost included.

In terms of WAR, González ranks fifth among HOF third basemen, Frost ranks seventh.

His 829 career doubles ranks third all-time in the BBA. That's an average of over 40 doubles per season, year in and year out. He led the BBA with 56 in 2055.

He was a six-time All-Star.

The Montreal Blazers are one of the original BBA teams. Their history is long. Eduardo González is the team leader in games played with 2,945, the team leader in career hits with 3,197, and the team leader in career home runs with 554. He was a Montreal lifer, knowing no other jersey than the Blazers green and gold. He made his debut at age 20 and retired after his age 39 season.

Impressive stats, but 20 seasons and only 6 ASG? Doesn’t have enough accolades for my liking, though he’s a great player.

I suspect that these guys aren't in yet simply because the field was so full last year.

No player with 80 WAR should be on the outside looking in.

500+ HR / 3,000+ hits

He was mashing until the end. From age 33 to age 37 (5 seasons) he put up 5.7/5.4/6.8/5.7/5.6 WAR, and trust me, it wasn't because of his defense. He was the best hitter on our 100-win 2057 squad. I called him Steady Eddie because you could count on that kind of production season after season.

His peak may not have been elite but his body of work was consistently strong for 19 seasons.

I may be softening my stance on him. Considering it at least.
