2065.04 Press Release: Nine Non-Tender Two Players

The Yellow Springs Nine announced they have non-tendered outfielders Kevin Thistle and Attana Sangeeta, allowing them to become free agents.

Thistle, 29, was a waiver pickup early in the 2064 season, from the Cape Fear Swamp Foxes. He batted .254 in 59 games for the Nine, with 6 home runs and an OPS+ of 103. After batting as high as .303 at the end of May, Thistle dropped off significantly after getting injured in at the end of June, batting just .205 in August and .185 in September.

Sangeeta was part of a trade with Long Beach in 2061. A Rule 5 pick by the Surfers from Nashville in the 2060/61 off-season, he was batting just .121 when he was given to Yellow Springs as part of the trade that also brought in Héctor Delgado. Sangeeta loved the change of scenery, batting .288 with an OPS+ of 133 for the Nine in 2061. He slumped in 2062, batting just .200 and eventually getting demoted to Indianapolis for a time, but recovered in 2063 to hit .263 with 21 home runs and an OPS+ of 110 and 3.1 WAR. The future looked bright with the Nine, but with minor leaguers pushing for the main roster and a .228 average with OPS+ of just 74 in 2064, the team opted to cut him instead of negotiating a deal.

"We appreciate what both of these young men did in parts of 2064, but looking at the overall body of their work, we felt they were not going to be a part of the 2065 team," said GM Rob McMonigal. "There's a huge push from the minors right now across all our positions, which is healthy, good, and shows we have a very good farm system. What it also means is that we can't keep players who aren't able to consistently perform. Especially not when their defensive metrics aren't up to our standards. I wish both these young men nothing but success elsewhere."

Smart decisions. I’m sure they’ll be available on minor league deals in February.

You think any of these guys would want to come to the GBC?

Hanging around in FA without any suitors tends to do that to a player.

I think so and they should do well there. I think Sangeeta especially worth looking into.

Yeah if they are I'll look into them. they're not bad players but I have better ones. Especially defensively. If either had better ZR numbers I'd have kept as 5/6 types. But my outfield is where I have my best opportunity to strengthen my defense.
