2065.02: Bears' Cubs - Left Field Prospects

Here is a link to last year’s left field prospect ranking. This is still not a strong area for the org, with a couple of DH types being added to what is otherwise very similar to last year's list.

#1 David Méndez (C-) | Age: 20 | SA
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
35/455/74/65/84/44/55/5
Mendez stays at the top of this list because he’s a solid defender and put up a 121 wRC+ in Short A. Unfortunately for his prospect pedigree, Mendez also lumped a point of AVK, GAP, POW, and EYE and no longer has the profile of an above average hitter.

#2 Dale Waterson (C-) | Age: 17 | INT
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
35/505/75/65/75/54/64/5
Acquired via trade on 4/1/64 when Montreal needed middle infield depth, Waterson hit well in the Bears organization in limited playing time. Some ratings bumps makes not getting him on the field more frequently look egregious as Waterson now projects to be an effective hitter who will provide strong batting averages with 20 home run power. His lack of defensive tools will haunt him as he climbs the ladder and it’s difficult to project him as anything other than DH if he can’t find another point of outfield range.

#3 Abdul-Razzaq bin Ahmed (C-) | Age: 19 | INT
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
20/501/62/61/52/62/61/6
Now 19 years old, Ahmed will head stateside in 2065 after modest development within the international complex. He’s got adequate offensive tools across the board and enough outfield range to actually stick there, albeit a mediocre throwing arm should limit him to left field.

#4 Lawrence Elliott (C-) | Age: 23 | AAA
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
45/458/86/69/95/54/56/6
After coming over in a midseason trade with Vancouver, Elliott crushed AA pitching to the tune of a 1.016 OPS and earned himself a promotion to AAA. He offers a plus hit tool, an above average eye, and still improving power that he’ll need if he’s going to make an impact in the BBA. A statue in left field, Elliott is better suited as a DH.

#5 Ricardo Rodríguez (C-) | Age: 25 | AA
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
40/454/54/55/65/57/75/6
A second consecutive successful hitting campaign—this time in AA—has us thinking late bloomer with Rodriguez. He bumped a point of contact and eye potential which sets him up with a way to support his solidly above average power. He’s got some decent athleticism that has us hoping he can improve in the outfield where he remains a stretch defensively. Look for him to start in AAA if he doesn’t get gobbled up in the rule 5 draft.

#6 Gang Liu (D) | Age: 21 | SA
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
30/404/54/65/55/55/73/4
Liu struggled again in SA and the wick is burning out on his prospect candle. There was some development but also some lumping to his base ratings. Liu will need to excel at A level ball to regain his prospect status.

Most of these player's potentials should be higher.

I think they’re about right, but they might look light compared to the over inflated ratings some corners get.

These guys will have a good 10-15 years to develop while Dundon holds down LF

I look at this and realize that I really do not prioritize power at all when I draft. probably hurts me a bit to assume i can just grab a guy.

I generally do not like players with sub-4 power. A middle infielder with high OBP potential I’ll occasionally let slide.
