One couldn't blame the Sluggers' fanbase for getting frustrated and tuning out over the course of the last decade. It took that long for the team to finally have a winning season again. It was way back in 2054 when the team won 94 games and last appeared in the playoffs. It was only a few years into GM BP's control of the team, and his luck with the successful team he had inherited was running out, ultimately resulting in a long rebuild only diehard fans could love.
In 2064, the team finally started to reap the rewards of that long rebuild by finishing second in the Heartland with a 89-73 record. The team destroyed opposing pitching, scoring a BBA-best 904 runs and 252 home runs. Almost everyone in the lineup hit over 20 homers, with four hitting over 30 homers. Yes, the pitching staff was one of the worst in the league, but with that offense, it didn't seem to hold the team back. Most notably, this success was done on a meager 56M payroll. Contrast that with the 118M payroll in 2054, and no wonder the team owner is very happy and the fanbase optimistic for the future. GM BP will have his hands full with salary management in the next few seasons for sure, but right now everyone is focused on the playoffs.
Yes, playoffs. The Sluggers are finally back in the postseason and will square off with the Des Moines Kernels in the first round. The team is hoping the bats stay hot, and the pitchers throw somewhat in the direction of home plate.
