Keeping the Faith: Mad Popes Prepare For Nashville Challenge (2064.6)

In previous seasons a matchup between the Mad Popes and Nashville would have been likely to happen in the Cartwright Cup and be a 7 game battle. However, in a year of parity and no easy games in the Frick means that this matchup is going to be happening in the Geoghegan Round with Nashville holding home field after finishing a game ahead in the standings.

While the Mad Popes have players who have had plenty of playoff experience, Nashville is the the team that everyone fears for a reason. Not only are they the 4 time defending champions, but when you look at record of the two general managers, the contrast couldn't be greater. Chad Nason has never failed to advance to the Doubleday Series in all of his playoff runs as Bluebirds GM, and hasn't been eliminated from the playoffs by a Pacific team since Portland's 5 game stunner in 2059. Ben Heuring on the other hand has only been to the playoffs 2 times as a BBA GM. The most recent time was in 2045 where the Robins bowed out after winning 1 playoff round. For reference, that was only Chad's 2nd full year as a GM and Brooks Eliot was still in middle school in Long Beach.


But baseball cares little for what your resume has been in the past, and the regular season is over. The current BBA standings show everyone in a tie at 0-0. The Mad Popes know that they are going to be up against it, but are feeling confident after surviving the trial by fire that they had in Valencia and the long flight over. There are even rumors that the organization has a special guest lined up to attend Game 3, but team sources were mum about who it is.
