Tortuga Tides Claim Drake League Championship Behind Mal Robinson’s Heroics
In a thrilling conclusion to the Drake League season, the Tortuga Tides emerged victorious, clinching the championship title with a 3-1 series win over the Coxen Hole Schooners (Coxen Hole?)
The Tides, known for their gritty play and explosive offense, sealed the deal in Game 4, capping off a dominant postseason following their division title.
The series opened with the Tides cruising to an 8-5 victory over the Schooners thanks to a 2-hit, 2-RBI performance from left fielder Jerry Johnson
Down 2 games to 0, Coxen Hole bounced back in Game 3 with a 3-1 win, behind 6 solid innings from Schooner starting pitcher José Córdova who also won player of the game honors for game 3. The Schooners led most of game 4 but it wasn't enough as the Tides claimed game 4 and the series.
Leading the charge in Game 4 was outfielder Mal Robinson, whose performance earned him Series MVP honors. Robinson went 3-for-6 across the series, launching two towering home runs and driving in five runs. His bat proved decisive, where his two-run blast in the top of the seventh inning put the Tides ahead 6-5 and shifted momentum firmly in Tortuga’s favor.
First year Tortuga Manager Eduardo Cota praised his squad’s resilience: “We’ve battled all season, and this group never backed down.
Mal stepped up when we needed him most, and the whole team fed off that energy.”
