2064-11 Poll time!

Post by Knucklehead254 » Mon Oct 13, 2025 10:34 pm

1. 11/16/2054: Traded 21-year old minor league LHP Glenn Walker to the Nashville Bluebirds, getting 34-year old 3B Tony Frost, 28-year old 1B Jorge Gutiérrez, and 23-year old minor league RHP Leo Hill in return.

Most of the time brand new GMs don't look to make trades, let alone with violate the don't trade with Chad rule. I looked to boost my offense and deal my #1 propect at the time for an aging Tony Frost and struggling DH Jorge Gutiérrez. Fortunately Frost would rebound his four years as a starter, earning 15 WAR, 3 All-Star selections, and a diamond glove in 2058. He helped lead the team to three straight playoff berths and revived his chances at a potential hall of fame nod. He's currently the third base coach for the Mounties.

2. 04/14/2059: Traded 30-year old RHP António Báldez to the Long Beach Surfers, getting 23-year old minor league LF Greg Clover, 22-year old minor league 3B Javier Vallés, and $375,000 in cash in return.

To understand this deal, Baldez was acquired in a different trade with Las Vegas before I immediatly sent him to Long Beach. Valles had one productive year as a starter before plummeting off the team, but Clover is the big one here. Since being named the fulltime starter in 2060, he's amassed 16.2 WAR, an All-Star appearance, and back to back diamond gloves at left field. He has two more years left on his team friendly deal, but some wonder if Manny Fernández may potentially take over the left field spot sooner rather than later..

3. 05/19/2059: Traded 33-year old RHP Xuan Ngo to the Charlotte Flyers, getting 18-year old minor league CF Héctor Ruíz, 20-year old minor league SS Lúcio Hernández, 22-year old minor league 3B Marco Skinner, and $250,000 in cash in return.

I remember initial talks were involved around me wanting Jose Bedreddin for Ngo but Charlotte rightfully refused and countered with Ruiz and a couple other prospects which I accepted. It took a few years but Ruiz rose the ranks of the Mounties farm system before shockingly earning the starting job in 2063 a year ahead of schedule. He's currently up to 3.3 WAR this year and even earned an All-Star selection at just 23. Should have the center field spot locked for I would hope the next decade. Hernandez had a bench role last season before being claimed off waivers this season. Skinner didn't amount to much.

4. 05/16/2061: Traded 26-year old 2B Reynaldo Serrano and 28-year old RF Ziya Türkes to the Montreal Blazers, getting 20-year old 1B Juan Hernández, 20-year old RF Phillip Higgins, 20-year old RHP Chris Parker, 23-year old LHP Abdul-Halim bin Mansur, and $2,000,000 in cash in return.

When Bob reached out for Turkes I expected quick negotiations before he dropped a massive offer involving him and Serrano. It took a while as we kept going back and forth on certain players (I wanted Harry Stewart and Manny Burgus instead of bin Mansur and Hernandez,) but we eventually agreed to the deal you see above. Parker was actually mentioned at the very beginning and was put in the deal almost like an afterthought for the both of us. To me he had good control but not much else. Fortunately with a very good dev lab, Parker looks all but certain to be the team's ace next season and beyond. He was in potential Nebraska talks but got lit up the last two games. I was also able to flip Hernadez for our current 3B Sergio Mendoza and bin Mansur fills a spot in the bullpen. Serrano was easily my most successful draft pick up to this point, able to play either middle infield postition and has a decent bat, but I dealt him mostly due to his recent injury concerns. When he's healthy in Montreal he's pretty good, but he's also been on the IL a few times as well.

Glenn Walker has one of the most fascinating player histories I've ever seen. There are so many weird quirks for a nothing player. I may have to find some time to write a player bio on him.

Definitely not the first one since you didn’t win a damn thing. The last couple trades have hope to bring a title.

I'm not exactly a neutral observer given our fight for the Pacific, but Ruiz is going to be really good for you as things stand.

With your aggressive, trade heavy nature I think acquiring Frost and getting some momentum was key. You unload yer farm and struggle for several years and you would be approaching everything differently.
