Bob Breum acknowledges that the sample size is small and admits to some reservations about the move. He said, "Augie has worked very hard at learning how to catch a knuckleball. I have nothing but the highest praise for him. Given more time, I suspect that they will gel as an effective battery. But right now, we don't have the luxury of time.

"We are in a pennant race. Our offense has been disappointing. Today we lost Denes Terovolas for six weeks. Luis Campos has been doing a fine job as our primary catcher, but he has struggled to hit right-handed pitching. In fact, our production against right-handed pitching has been very poor up and down the lineup. I've called up Jim Garrick from AAA Ottawa to catch when we face right-handed pitching. He'll bring a big left-handed power bat to our lineup to help fill the void left by Denny's absence.
"Jimmy is hitting <check notes> .254/.350/.526 (138 OPS+) with 20 home runs in 309 plate appearances for the Dragons. This month he's been on a tear, hitting .408/.532/.918 (291 OPS+). While that's clearly not sustainable, I believe that it is safe to say that he is locked in right now."

Jim Garrick
Garrick was originally selected out of college by Montreal in the third round of the 2061 amateur draft. He has worked his way up the ladder, hitting well at Single-A in 2061, AA in 2062/2063, and AAA this season. He had a cup of coffee with the big league club in 2062 and all of one at-bat with them in 2063. He'll be the fourth rookie on this year's squad, alongside fellow catcher Luis Campos, DH Jesús Ramos, and third baseman Matt Stoner. Montreal's position players as a group are the youngest in the Johnson League with an average age of just under 25.
