Hey all, sorry for the recent inactivity on the forums. With the report writing at work and honest to god writers block, it's been difficult trying to write something without immediately deleting it or just drafting and forgetting. Even this one is kinda short but I figured I should put out at least something to start the year. So after a disappointing season where we failed to make the playoffs, you might wonder what our team intends to do in free agency. The answer?
ABSOLUTLY NOTHING
Ok not exactly true, we will be looking to fill in our minor league squads but in terms of the big leagues? Pretty much nothing. I mean, outside of Blair Peyton, there isn't really anyone out there I'd consider making an offer towards. Of course this may seem like a strange move since, once again, our offense was pretty shit. Well the thing is, it was worse in 2062, when we made the playoffs. Plus I hope to finally have a good bat at first base again with the recent growth of Carlos Colon, as well as already adding a great bat against righties with the acquisition of Miller Shed. The Shed trade happened because I actually wanted Greg Squires but figured Portland would be able to re-sign him before free agency, which ended up happening. All of our position player starters from the start of 2063 (except Colby Triska... no I don't want to talk about it) are returning and the recent acquisitions of Felix Ramos and Senzo Sato are heading to FA.
On the pitching side of things we see GBC signing Motka Beteev and veteran Will Ritter leaving the team. This more or less due to Chris Parker showing promise as a starter and Serge Elovsky returning from his injury. Beteev did solid despite his declining ratings, but I felt a double figure contract was a bit too much for someone already showing decline and opted to let him walk. Ritter had a great first half of the season before pitching like dogshit in the second half. I may look to see what bullpen options are availible, but I'm also giving serious consideration in converting recently acquired Victor Roman.
What about trades? Well that depends, because the market is always changing unlike in free agency. A player that I could really want may pop up on a trade block, or someone makes me an offer I can't refuse for one of my players. So unless your name is Leslie Hartman, I don't think I'll be super aggressive with the trades this offseason.
