As a very wise man named Billy Joel once said, "Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes", and the Gamblers have had their share of both recently.
Firstly, I've lost another assistant general manager. Sergio Lopez has announced that he will be leaving the Gamblers. I have the worst luck ever with assistant general managers; I remember the one who resigned to manage his bride's career as an exotic dancer. In his exit interview, Sergio hinted that one cause for his dissatisfaction was my chronic inability to listen to any recommendation that he had on trades or anything else. I assured him that I had always valued his input, whether I decided to go with his views or not, but even as I said those words I knew it was bulls***. I've had so many oddball assistants that I've been automatically tuning them out. I need to fix that. Anyway, Sergio told me what his future plans are, but I forget. I guess I wasn't listening.
Next, I've been trying to figure out what to do about another upcoming goodbye. Okyay Nisanci is coming to the end of his contract, and I want to do something to honor him. He was our best player for several seasons, and he deserves to be recognized. The problem is, he hasn't actually announced his retirement, so I can't really do the normal pregame tribute thing. I wonder if I can do an Okyay Nisanci "Thanks-for-everything-but you're-38-and-wrecked-and-hitting-.227-so-connect-the-dots" day...
And there was one semi-significant hello: I claimed utility guy Roman Gonzalez on waivers from Des Moines. Nobody involved in the transaction thinks Roman is going to be the answer to what's currently ailing this team, but he's at least versatile. That often just means that he can be bad at several positions, but I'm keeping a good thought.
I keep looking at the players other teams are offering for trade, but they generally on't seem to be much better than what I currently have. And on the rare occasions when an actual stud player is on the block, I have to remind myself that if I give up significant assets to get that player, then I don't have those significant assets any more. I don't know; maybe I could ask my assistant GM what he thinks. What was his name again?

When I have a revolving door or a lot of openings/new faces around, I usually come up with a generic nickname that can be used for multiple people. Butthead and Numbnuts are already taken though if you run around near Valencia circles.

Hopefully you gave away connect the dots coloring books to the kids on the final Sunday with each page being a different thing that Nisanci could do in his retirement.
