The Nashville Bluebirds blew a close game open with a four-run 5th inning to take the series opener over the Hawaii Tropics. The Birds tagged Trops starter Daniel Thornton with three runs on two hits and four walk in 4.1 innings. He struck out three in the loss and falls to 0-4. The Birds kept the pressure on the Tropics scoring three runs on Hawaii two-way player Jose Ordonez. Ordonez couldn’t get any one out while giving up those runs on three hits and a walk.
The offense managed just three runs for Hawaii with Eric Owens driving in two runs and Lorenzo Holloway hit a solo homer (4).

The Hawaii Tropics fall behind the Nashville Bluebirds 5-0 before responding with a five-run outburst in the 6th inning to tie the game. The Trops took a brief lead with a manufactured run by Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez. Yogi walked, stole second and scored on a Jorge Dodd single.
The Bluebirds tied the game up in the 7th on De-shi Kuo’s 2nd homer of the day. Nashville scored two more runs in the 8th to take the lead for the final time.

The Trops jump out to a quick lead over the Bluebirds on RBI doubles by Vicente Martinez (12) and Jorge Dodd (5) in the 1st inning. Nashville’s offense responded with seven runs before Hawaii scored a consolation prize run in the 9th on a solo homer (7) by Eric Owens.
‘Lumps’ Garcia gave up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two un four innings of work. The bullpen gave up a couple of runs in four innings of relief as the Bluebirds pull away.

The Hawaii offense hammered Nashville starter Jim Ploughman for six runs then took out their frustrations on the Bluebird bullpen scoring seven more runs to avoid a sweep. The Trops had a three-run homer from Lorenzo Holloway (5), a two-run blast (10) from Vincente Mendez and a solo homer (3) by Jeff Appleton. Vicente Martinez was 2 for 4 with a triple (3), scored two runs and drove in three.
On the mound, veteran Trops starter Ruben bin Majid al Din pitched five scoreless innings giving up just three hits, walked one and fanned five in his 3rd win of the season. Trops reliever Alex Garcia struggled against the Bluebirds giving up three runs on five hits and a couple of walks in an inning of relief.
The Bluebirds win the series 3-1.
